Try and Fail
A Short Film about getting to know ourselves
Try and Fail is an original short film written by Teagan Rose, directed by Drey Singer, and produced by DeForrest Taylor and Teagan Rose. The production officially wrapped principal photography in early 2018. Release dates soon to come...
Try and Fail is a story about self growth, acceptance, and process. We have all had many moments of trying and failing in our lives, and the former always tends to feel a bit more positive than the latter. But this story challenges that idea.
Try and Fail will be represented as individual characters both played by Teagan Rose. By portraying these two contrasting essences as people, the audience will be able to identify with the archetypes of Try and Fail within themselves; recognizing the moments in their life when these characters have come out to play.
Try is open to new ideas, has no fear of the unknown, can sometimes be naive and idealistic, and sure, sometimes tries a bit too hard. At her core is the thirst for discovery, and the fire to go for it NOW. She is something like a child, in that children have the most beautiful resilience of all.
Fail is guarded by walls built of past experiences, she is content sitting in self loathing and excuses made of icy remarks. She ultimately believes that there is too much pain in the pursuit of anything new, and safety is now her dearest friend, made of stillness, and judgement.
Over the course of the film, Try wants to get to know Fail, and Fail wants keep Try as far away from her as possible, until they experience each other in a way they never expected. Underneath both of their intentions is the awareness that they are each other’s kryptonite, and that they are what will set each other free.
These little battles happen within us every day: “that looks so fun I’m going to do it!” “but I tripped the last time I tried so I shouldn’t try again…” with our relationships, career, self growth, you name it. While this process can be uncomfortable, we all go through it. The never ending cycle of trying and failing is one of the most beautiful journeys we experience in this life.
